چکیده

Many content-based video data indexing and retrieval systems have utilized the syntactic contents of the video sequences such as color, texture, and shape. And only a few researches have addressed indexing and retrieving video data by motion. In this paper, we present a method to automatically compute motionbased indexes for video units and to retrieve video units using motion information. Since videos are full of motion and the eld of motion is the whole frame, we propose a method to divide this eld of motion into several sub elds and extract the motion features of every sub eld. As a result, location information will be added to the motion vectors. Three keyframes will be extracted as representative frames for the corresponding shot, rst, last, and middle frame. Then, the system extracts the MPEG coded motion vectors information of the macroblocks of the representative frames and use these information to compute the motion indexes of the corresponding shots. This method is faster than other methods since motion vectors have already been computed by the MPEG software. Motions that result from camera movement and objects movements are distinguished. As a result, users are able to issue queries based on either type of motion.

Efficient Camera Motion Characterization for MPEG Video Indexing

In this paper, a novel approach to the camera motion analysis is proposed to index videos compressed in MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. Specifically, it fits the motion vectors in MPEG stream into the two-dimensional affine model to detect basic camera operations automatically. The proposed approach involves 1) the construction of motion vector fields (MVFs) by normalizing the types of motion vectors and fil...

We describe a method to automatically extract video objects, which are important for object-based indexing of videos in an MPEG-7 compliant video database system. Most of the existing salient object detection approaches detect visually conspicuous image structures, while our method aims to find regions that may be important for indexing in a video database system. Our method works on a shot bas...

Representation of motion activity in hierarchical levels for video indexing and filtering

A method for video indexing and filtering based on motion activity characteristics in hierarchical levels is proposed. To extract motion activity information, an MPEG (MPEG-1/2) video is first adaptively segmented into hierarchical levels with fixed percentage of original video length based on P-frame macroblock motion information. Three motion activity characteristics-motion intensity which re...
